The 1000 hectares of nature sanctuaries belonging to Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) are a Canadian biodiversity hotspot, hosting a greater diversity of plants than any other protected area in the country, as well as being nationally recognized for their bird, reptile and amphibian populations. Part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, these areas form the heart of the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System, 3,900 hectares of open space wrapped around the western end of Lake Ontario. Join an enthusiastic team of EcoPark System partners, friends and the public as we blitz these areas. Friday will focus on inventorying key newly protected properties (experts only), while Saturday's blitz will cover a broader range of the area and include special introductory identification workshops and a community Biodiversity Festival at the Basecamp, located in the RBG Arboretum.

Les Jardins botaniques royaux, ce sanctuaire de 1000 hectares, constituent une zone remarquable de biodiversité; ils abritent en fait la plus grande diversité de plantes parmi les zones protégées du pays, et sont connus au niveau national pour les populations d’oiseaux, de reptiles et d’amphibiens. Cette zone, qui fait partie d’une Réserve de la biosphère de l’UNESCO au Canada, est au cœur du système de l'écoparc Cootes to Escarpment : 3900 hectares de terrain contournant la pointe ouest du lac Ontario.
