SDMS Awarded Grant from NAMP

The San Diego Mycological Society was awarded a grant from the North American Mycoflora Project which will pay for sequencing of 50 mushrooms from San Diego County. The Mycological Society of America (MSA) and the North American Mycological Society (NAMA) provide funds to genetically sequence citizen science collections of macrofungi from North America. The funding provides grants for citizen science projects from under-explored regions and for under-explored groups of macrofungi. The primary goal NAMP is to generate a large influx of scientifically valuable data from the amateur mushroom community. As an internationally-recognized biodiversity hotspot, San Diego is an important region for conducting high impact biodiversity research.
