I don't have an opinion on the merits on this particular work, but adopting this change seems to be contrary to the general iNaturalist philosophy of trying to follow broad-scale synoptic references rather than keep up with the multitude of taxonomic papers that come out every year.

POWO recognizes this taxon as Echinocactus texensis.

With reference to the discussion at the following link, it appears that Lodé also recognizes this taxon as Echinocactus texensis: https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/337805

yes, the study that sustains the recovery of the taxon name is published after Lodé's in 2018 by the most
