Monthly article #1

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing very well. This month, we are experimenting for the first time a monthly article, which will bring together interesting data, statistics and the welcoming of the new members of the month. Of course, there are things that will change over time and articles. Do not hesitate if you have ideas for things that could be added, it would help us a lot! All proposals are good to take, even if they look insignificant.

First of all, here are all the new members who joined the project this month:
@mylegsareitchy
@monicarauchwarter
@marathontomay
@draginous
@daniela_secas
@artificialfauna

Welcome, hoping that you can actively participate in this group! Thank you very much to have joined ! All your data is valuable to this group, even if they are "common" birds.

Now, let's move on to the statistics.
This month, a total of 83 observations were made for 31 species, 60 identifiers and 23 observers.
The most seen species was the Carolina Chickadee (Poecile carolinensis) with 12 observations, followed by Eastern Bluebird (Siala sialis) with 11 observations and of Malaysian Pied Fantail (Rhipidura javanica) with 6 observations. The most productive observers were @sammyisafuzzydog, with 25 observations (!) for 5 species, then @hamsambly with 9 observations and 3 species and @seraphinpoudrier with 8 observations for 4 species.

Lately, the interesting data of the month.
The most remarkable being the first observation of Red-breasted Parakeet (Psittacula alexandri), a young man who takes his head out of his nest, too cute!

Congratulations @hamsambly for these very beautiful photos!

The Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia), the Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis) and the Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) offer their fourth and eighth observations respectively:

That's what we conclude this first article on, hoping that it has you more even if it was a little short. If you want to express yourself and add something, do not hesitate. As written above, we will add elements over time and your ideas. Thank you for reading and next month, good observations!

Inviting new observers to the project

Thanks everybody that has already joined and engaged in this project which is today just one day old.

Background: I noticed there are similar projects about "active nests" or "nature in infraestructures", etc, but none put the focus specifically on bird nests in the urban environment. Being a nature lover, passionate about birds, and swift enthusiast, I have sadly witnessed how a good number of nests are lost mainly due to building renovations.

This project will try to contribute to the conservation of urban birds by recording their nesting site locations and I really hope people find it useful as a conservation tool.

Any questions, suggestions, things that could be improved, please, don't hesitate to reach me or the managers/curators of the project. Also, if you want to engage more actively in the project don't hesitate to ask to become a curator/manager.

Hoping to see soon all your observations of urban nests in your place.

Have a nice day!!
