Summary ²

The brown rat, common rat, street rat, sewer rat, Hanover rat, Norway rat, brown Norway rat, Norwegian rat, wharf rat (Rattus norvegicus), or hood rat is one of the best known and most common rats. This species was introduced unintentionally to Haida Gwaii with the advent of maritime shipping, and threatens many endemic taxa and globally significant seabird colonies.
