I made this field to help keep track of the occasional fossil observation that's added.
We used to track fossils as one of the drop-down values in our field "Animal sign and song" but that wasn't as elegant (e.g., there were fossil plants). Having a separate fossil field also allows us to also add "Animal sign and song" to observations with values like "Shell/exoskeleton", or "Scat" for the coprolites.
