Oak-loving Elfin Saddle (Helvella dryophila)

Observer

mishroom

Date

Description

Growing with Quercus agrifolia.

This is similar to Helvella dryophila, but with very uniformly saddle-shaped caps as opposed to the normal completely convoluted cap that is familiar with this species. I believe that this may be an undescribed species.

The only thing concerning is the lack of obvious striations on the margin of the cap. I am assuming this is due to age.

What

Amanita Sect. Validae (Section Validae)

Observer

mishroom

Date

Description

Growing with Quercus agrifolia. Could this be A. sponsus or simply A. novinupta var. alba? The button seems to bruise brown, characteristic with sponsus, however.

Fool's Funnel (Collybia rivulosa)

Observer

mishroom

Date

Description

Gills appeared both notched and attached. Maybe some decurrent action going on, but mostly not. Seemed to bruise dingy brown on stipe.

Small, about 1.5-2inches in length, cap about 1 inch in diameter. Growing under California live oak.

What

Cavaliers (Genus Melanoleuca)

Smelled lightly of root beer or some type of syrup

Upmost top flesh of cap peeled cleanly from the rest of it.

Approximately 4-5 inches in length, 3 inches in cap diameter.

What

Greenfoot Webcap (Cortinarius glaucopus)

Observer

mishroom

Date

March 18, 2018

Description

Alan mentioned that it could be C. glacopus or C. alboviolaceus. The color, I felt, matched up with C. alboviolaceus, as well as the abundant Cortina remnants. But based on sheer likelihood, I decided this was more likely C. glacopus.
