These birds have just about disappeared , it was like a miracle for us to spot one after many years without seeing any at all at different places where they were plenty full before.

Description

These bats are bu the thousands, come out at 6h20, roost in every building in holes, cracks, between the roof tiles or any small hide-away they can find. I noticed that none of them was hanging upside down and were always wedged in between cracks, in small holes or laying down on the walls. They are really a nuisance and threat for diseases as they get into every roof of the buildings, including schools, church and even the hospital where the ceilings are impregnated by their droppings. Actually the whole village smells when you get close. Everything has been tried to keep them away without success. The reason for them being so many is because we are surrounded by swamps that produce thousands of insects like Day-flies and other.

Description

The Lake Lufira Masked Weaver ( Ruweti) is now the "Lufira masked weaver" as I observed it that they exist also all on the Lufira river down to Kiubo Falls 150km north of the lake, they were thought to be only on the Lufira Lake. This was visited and confirmed by A Craig ( Rhodes university) and M Louette ( Royal Museum of Africa - Tervuren Belgium) that came with me to verify, an example was captured to confirm. This is also confirmed in the recent book " Birds of katanga" by M Hasson and M Louette in which I participated with many bird pictures.
