Elms of eastern United States and Canada

Dutch Elm Disease (DED) has dramatically impacted the elms indigenous to eastern North America. Elms themselves, especially less common species, have become somewhat obscure to many naturalists. This project will document native and escaping non-native elm populations of the region, including introgression of native and non-native species. The key to conservation of the indigenous species may stem as much from rigorous scientific documentation as simple awareness of the species' continued existence and will to live in the post-DED world. less ↑
