Habitat: Perpetually shaded oak woodland - chaparral. Growing from soil covered in oak-leaf litter.
Preceding weather: fog mornings and evenings, about 1-2 weeks from last rain
Growing scattered. Majority of specimens were covered in what may be Hypomyces chrysospermus "Bolete Mold". Affected specimens did not show strong/quick bruising as seen in unaffected specimens. Guttation observed in mold-affected specimens. Younger/fresher specimens showed yellow liquid, while older specimens oozed a dark brown/red liquid when squeezed (last picture)
The gills were a pale white color. Two fruiting bodies within 2 feet of the other.
