Ficus spotted in crotch of Tanekaha. Spotted from new treetop bridge at Kauri Glen Reserve
Cultivated ex-Stewart Island. Patch there at Bragg Bay that are very big with glossy leaves. Possible hybrid C. robusta x C. lucida. SEcond photo shows the middle leaf as a possible hybrid with potential parents each side. Has the black stipule and fruits like C. robusta but the leaves look halfway between.
Eskdale res latest feral chicken update - 2 young black chicks pullets or roosters im stumped the one with longer tail lacks a comb but has metallic on wings & saddle while the one with shorter very boisterous & has a small comb. Short-tail has yellow skin, unsure about long-tail. The short tailed has begun making weird clucking noises which sound exactly like his? father barred rock/silkies alarm call, probably practicing that & vocal cords in preparation to future crowing. No sound from long tail. Odd. I remember their mother as a chick not making any sounds or ever playfighting but did not have metallic feathering while long tails saddle feathers look slightly pointed. Short tails tertials are long pic 4 & overcover his? primaries, a feature I have only seen in roosters as aid for territorial wing damms/claps. This chick looked very rooster like when younger. Assuming short-tail as a rooster & long tail pullet. Last photo alpha brown shaver hen nearly 4 years soon dethroned if chicks are roosters.
