Genus to species in CA: leaf gen adaxially convex (not flat), margin weakly spine-toothed (not lobed); acorn cup scales thin.

Species to variety in CA: lf abaxially glabrous to sparsely hairy except vein axils hair-tufted (not abaxially densely tomentose).
