Carpinus caroliniana

• Leaves: oval, pointed tip, double toothed, hairless, 2-5 inches long and 1-2 inches wide
• Bark: grey, smooth, wood underneath rippled and sinew-like
• Fruit/Seed: 2 ¾ inch long elongated cluster of small, greenish, hairy nutlets attached to large, leafy, three lobed bracts
• Height: 20-35 feet
• Flowering: April - May
• Habitat: hardwood forest, swamps, stream banks
