Racket-tailed Emerald / Cordulie écorcée

Size: 37-43 mm

First Fundy record: July 19th, 2014, MacLaren Pond (participants of weekly Bio-blitz program)

Status/Habitat: Uncommon and local in New Brunswick, although it is widespread. This species occurs most frequently in sluggish waters, including beaver ponds, especially those with boggy or marshy edges, smaller lakes and bog or fen pools.

Flight period in New Brunswick: June 5th-August 23rd

ID Hints: This Emerald's spindle-shaped abdomen is wide and club-shaped enough to resemble those found in several species of the Clubtail family.

Nature Notes: The larvae of this species tend to hang out below the overhanging edges of moss in bog pools.
