Hudsonian Whiteface / Leucorrhine hudsonienne

Size: 27-32 mm

First Fundy record: June 6th, 2013, Caribou Plain (Denis Doucet, Anna Holdaway and Daniel Sinclair)

Status/Habitat: A common species in New Brunswick. This species uses a variety of aquatic habitats for breeding, notably sphagnum bog pools, fens and some beaver ponds.

Flight period in New Brunswick: May 9th-August 23rd

ID Hints: Juvenile Hudsonian Whiteface and Dot-tailed Whiteface are very similar. The shape of the spot on S7 in Hudsonian is triangular whereas it is squarish in the Dot-tailed.

Nature Notes: Along with the Beaverpond Baskettail, this is one of the very earliest species to emerge as an adult in New Brunswick each spring.
