Campylopterus hemileucurus

The violet sabrewing (Campylopterus hemileucurus) is a large hummingbird with a long, decurved beak. Both sexes feature white patches on the tail and a postocular white spot. Males display iridescent purple plumage, while females have mostly grayish underparts with a violet patch on the throat. Its range extends from southern Mexico to western Panama, inhabiting humid and semihumid forests in mountains and slopes. It is territorial and exhibits aggressive behaviors.
