SUMMARY: Nice day after steamy days during week. Two trips: one to Great Blue Hill and other to Ponkapoag Pond.

ROUTE TAKEN: Blue Hill: Parked in lot, walked up summit road to summit. Down via main ski slope. Parked at golf course; walked on Maple Ave to dam. Walked to bog trail and started on it before turning back as it was darkening.

TERRAIN: Flat

PHENOLOGY: Green. Ponkapoag Bog is a floating bog on the west side of the pond. It has white cedars, pitcher plants and other plants in this unusual habitat.

Description

Found along the Summit Road to Great Blue Hill. There was a lot of webbing on the guard rail. I don't know if it came from this spider or it happened to be there. Nearby there also appears to be egg masses.

Not entirely sure that this is a black eyed susan, but that what it reminds me of. Found along the access road on the summit of Great Blue Hill.

Description

Found on the main ski slope on Great Blue Hill.

The slope is now dominated by this grass, standing taller than I am. The field now has a crimson tinge to it because of this grass.

Description

It was just at sunset when I came upon this plant and the bumble bee, motionless, on the flower. Seems awfully exposed.
