Christmas Bird Count 2017

I participated in my first Christmas Bird Count and I had a lot of fun! Since I'm not great at identification by sound or very familiar with my sparrow species, I went along with a more expert birder. I jokingly say my skill level at identification is at the "brown bird" stage. Meaning, I can identify the "different" looking birds, such as a Spotted Towhee or a Scrub Jay...even a White-crowned sparrow, but when it comes to quickly identifying a Song Sparrow vs a Fox Sparrow, it's all "small brown bird" to me.

Some highlights from the Christmas Bird Count for me: I got to see a Barn Owl! Also I've decided Kinglets are super adorable.
