A queen searching the lawn adjacent to the Shawnee State Park lodge parking lot for a young Vespula sp. nest to usurp. Three of its recorded hosts, V. maculifrons, V. vidua and V. flavopilosa, are found here.

Description

A queen searching a hilly lawn for a host colony of V. maculifrons to usurp. V. flavopilosa queens appear to be unable to initiate their own nests, and rely on forcible takeover of young nests of V. maculifrons and V. alascensis.

Description

Workers of Vespula koreensis koreensis scavenging sliced chicken. Each yellowjacket cuts out a small chunk of the meat, which is then taken back to the nest as food for the developing larvae. The cycle is repeated until the food source is gone.
