Vermilion Flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus)Observer
jaredmanninenDescription
Same bird as this observation (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/209396820 ).
It shows a yellow wash underneath which, I believe indicates that it's a female.
What
Black-headed Grosbeak (Pheucticus melanocephalus)Observer
jaredmanninenDescription
A lousy photo, but it was singing its beautiful song :) I decided to post this mainly because it's my first sighting of one for the season.

Two of them were working this marsh. I only saw one, however, but I heard two distinct calls from different locations in this area.

Never got a good look at its head, but with that thicker looking barring I'm leaning toward a Cooper's Hawk.
Thanks for your help.

I was able to walk surprisingly close to these two without causing them to fly.

What
American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos)Observer
jaredmanninenDescription
A sequence of not-the-best-photos, but this bird looked smaller than a Raven, exhibited a steady rowing wingbeat as it flew across the sky, and it appeared that its tail feathers were far more squared-off than a Raven's.
Part of the reason for so many photos is that they show off its steady wingbeat when you click through them quickly :)
Thanks for your help!

A whole lot of not so great shots of these Sandpipers in flight. But they definitely had black legs. Although I didn't see any rusty/reddish on their backs, I'm leaning toward Dunlins or Western Sandpipers since the other options with black legs are pretty rare and haven't (to my limited knowledge) been documented in Tahoe in the spring.

American Black Bear (Ursus americanus)Observer

With tag and radio collar. It appears that it's Tag #1793. Looks like it had swam from the Tahoe Keys neighborhood along Venice Drive over to the edge of Pope Marsh where I was standing.

There was another Long-billed Dowitcher in the group, but it was in non-breeding (see following link and fourth photo above).

Nearly two hours of waiting around to figure out what these were (as I only saw them from a distance and sitting motionless). In this case, I was very grateful for that Bald Eagle flyover to get these guys moving a bit :)
