Upon returning home, I happened to notice what appeared to be green bees in the bushes (I was not disappointed!). She was captured for a quick photo session as my current camera just won't focus too well otherwise.

Lighting didn’t permit a decent photo, especially with only an iPhone on hand. I might as well still take this opportunity to show what some basic editing in Photos can reveal from less-than-optimum image. Photo #1 has no post-photographic editing. Photo #2 just has increased color saturation and light brilliance and originally was the same quality as photo #1.

Description

I happened to luck out while on UTSA campus and saw a female cicada killer wasp (Sphecius spheciosus) landing with prey. The area didn't appear to have a nest, so she was likely taking a break while returning with nest provisions. I frequently see these flying around, but they're normally flying by too quickly for me to do any photography. I had to take the opportunity to get some photos.

For the cicada killer wasp, see https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/14666612.

Description

A paper wasp was flying around one of the bushes behind the Flawn Science Building. The body was red-and-yellow striped, roughly one inch long. Size rules out the similar P. dorsalis (~0.50 - 0.75 inch), and the abdomen was too narrow and yellow for P. bellicosus. Photography was not possible at the time of observation.
