May 26, 2019 02:28 PM NZST

Description

on outer margin of extensive manuka canopy bordering older kanuka/manuka then older regen native forest

These forests areas are visible on googleearth, in strainght lines that had suggested they were planted. however it seems they were created not by planting, but by the cessation of mowing.

The visible mown exotic grasses beyong this manuka are a well-used recreational and dog exercise area, with several paths leading into the forest at different points along this ridge

Photos / Sounds

What

Glossy Privet Ligustrum lucidum

Date

May 26, 2019 01:52 PM NZST

Description

removal of all lower branches in june 2018, followed by inadequate ringbarking, stopped it from growing much but the bark has partially regrown over the ringbarking so it was felled at about 2m H, leaving a stump which is low enough to control by ongoing manual intervention.

The base of the trunk is too close to, ie almost touching, other trees so impossible to get a saw in between the trunks.

Left a glove over the stump hoping to slow its sprouting, will look for some sturdy black cloth or similar, preferably biodegradeable
