The green stuff is knotweed, but what's the orange? It was so thick at first I thought it was silly string, but there were identifiable tendrils that were greenish at the end.
Edit: I think it's dodder!

A big silver maple came down in the storm last week. Portions of the trunk are soft and filled with a dense network of what appears to be roots. I've never seen this before. Is it the maple itself? There weren't any signs of other plants present before the maple fell.
