Description

I found this plant while spending the day at Claytor Lake. It was close to the shore in a grassy area. It was about 77 degrees Fahrenheit. It measured about 5 inches wide. The leaves were fuzzy and soft, which reminded me of the Lambs-ear (Stachys byzantina) plant.

Description

This is a wild Shetland pony that I approached while hiking Mt. Rogers. There are approximately 120 wild ponies in the Grayson Highlands. They help control the spread of hawthorn, thorny shrubs, and trees in the area. This is also the highest peak in Virginia. It was about 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The pony was approximately 35 inches tall.
