== An activity begun while volunteering for the first VT Butterfly Atlas, 2002-07 ==
Years of studying in habitat, many hundreds of each of 3 local Lethe species:
Lethe anthedon, Lethe eurydice, and Lethe appalachia.
Raising hundreds ex-ova of each of the 3 species for 15-plus years —
to release most, and to save some as specimens for reference.
Original descriptions of the species by various authors:
Shapiro & Cardé, 1970. Cardé, Shapiro & Clench 1970. Gatrelle & Arbogast, 1974.

Appalachian Brown vs Eyed Brown:
Habitat: Is it within a wet woodland with sedges. (Appalachia)
Is it confined to sedges in an open sunny field/marsh. (Eurydice)
Both occur in edge habitat. Appy's are more likely to wander out of habitat
Intermediate individuals may be difficult if not impossible to ID,
Field marks vary;
a combination of all characteristics should be considered.
Color can be key to the species ID — best when seen in life vs photos/specimens.
