I love the out-of-doors and try to take pictures of everything living whenever I can. I've been an outdoor educator since 2006 which is right around the time I started seriously focusing on nature, especially birds. I graduated from Longwood University in Farmville with a degree in biology, concentrating in ecology and evolution. I've been working in Virginia State Parks since 2012 and was most recently the interpretive ranger at Holliday Lake State Park in Appomattox County, Virginia. As of December 2020, I'm currently the Visitor Experience Specialist for all Virginia State Parks in the south-central region. I'm a Certified Interpretive Guide and Certified Virginia Master Naturalist, and I was a Regional Coordinator for the 2nd Virginia Breeding Bird Atlas (2016-2020) and an Advisory Committee Member for Virginia's 2020 Wildlife Viewing Plan. If I'm outside, you can bet I'm birding, herping, or both.
Starting in 2008 I took most of my pictures with a small Sony DSC-H10 Cybershot. I then used a Sony DSC-HX300 Cybershot from December 2014 to August 2016 (R.I.P.). I had an old (but reliable) Canon REBEL XT with an EFS 55-250mm lens for my nice photos for many years. I purchased a Sigma 150-600mm lens in May 2020, as well as a Canon 90D...that I'm still trying to figure out. Got a new phone in July 2024, so hopefully you'll see me posting more observations now!
