Piloerection (ie hair is raised to make aardwolf look bigger) could be caused by camera noise/flash (although Cuddeback & infrared flash intend to minimize this disturbance), but also likely that the animal smells all the other activity at this site.

This was a great set--lots of aardvark, aardwolf, caracal, porcupine, & duiker.
