In 2017, we at ECW created the New Brunswick Invasive Plant Patrol Web App to provide an on-line, GIS-based tool to assist citizen scientists and natural resource managers working to protect natural resources from the threat of invasive species. We collate data from a variety of agencies and non-profits to build a province wide picture of invasive species occurrence records and management actions.
Currently, we are tracking priority invasive plant species in New Brunswick but are also looking for observations in Eastern Canada, and New England states. Drawing from the iNaturalist community will allow us to fill in the gaps and greatly expand the possibility of catching new locations of invasive species before they get out of hand, while also helping raise awareness of what species are considered invasive in Atlantic Canada.
To learn more about the New Brunswick Invasive Plant Patrol Program project, see our site at http://www.nbala.ca/invasive-plant-patrol-program/, or go directly to www.ecwinc.org/invasive to view known occurrence records of priority invasive species in New Brunswick.
