Welcome! Calling all experts!

The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History and Coastal Watershed Council would like to invite you to join us for our Earth Day BioBlitz on April 22, 8:30-10:30 am. This is a celebration of citizen science and a fun way to get a "snapshot" of biodiversity along the San Lorenzo River. I know that there are lots of things going on that day, but the Museum is highlighting this event as a way to promote, celebrate, and DO science locally.

We will be coordinating teams to go out to San Lorenzo Park (along the riparian area by the water) and record as much as possible on the morning of Earth Day, April 22, from 8:30-10:30am - leading smoothly into the city's Earth Day festival. We want all kinds of community members to participate, but especially encourage specialists that can help their teams identify flora and fauna as they go. Our goal is to have a plant, bird, or bug expert in each team, and we would like to you to be one of those team leaders!

The Museum of Natural History is excited to welcome Cal Academy's Citizen Sciences director on Thursday, April 20 for our Naturalist Night to talk about all of the things that have been accomplished through citizen science initiatives. We encourage those interested in participating in the BioBlitz to attend!

Please contact the Museum at education@santacruzmuseum.org if you have any questions and to express interest in being a team leader.
