Plants suitable for growing in humid environments, e.g. Typha and Pyracantha coccinea
Typha is a small genus with only about a dozen species, distributed in almost all regions of the world except South Africa, but most species grow in the northern hemisphere. They like to stay at a wetland evirment. Typha is perennial aquatic or marsh herb. The rhizome is milky white. The above-ground stems are strong, tapering upwards, 1.3-2 meters high。
Typha belongs to Typhales, Typhaceae Juss, Typha Linn.
How Typha could live in wetland during any weather?
Typha like a hot and humid climate. The suitable temperature for growth is 15-30℃. When the temperature drops below 10℃, the growth basically stops. During the winter, it can withstand a low temperature of minus 9℃. When the temperature rises above 35℃, the plant grows slowly. The most suitable water depth is 20-60 cm, and it can withstand 70-80 cm deep water. This growth habit gives cattails strong vitality to fight any extreme weather.
My observation is about plants and insects that are suitable for growing in the humid weather in Vancouver. Except for cattails, most of my materials are not suitable for cold. It may be because Vancouver is in a humid and warm environment and winter is not very cold, so Some plants will grow here that are not available in other locations.
