Golden orb weavers are (in)famous in Sydney, and visitors are often amazed by their size and number. They build huge beautiful golden webs and help control pest insects like flies.
But although we see them everywhere, we have no idea how or why they survive so well in the city. My research looks at the effect of urbanisation on Golden Orb Weavers size, growth and population levels.
You can help me with this research by adding your observations of Nephila plumipes from around the Sydney area.
Don't forget to look in the web for the tiny red colored males or the silver "dew drop spiders" which are kelptoparasites (this means they eat food the large spider caught).
