This year's virtual edition of the Fire in the Pines Festival is underway! One of the biggest events of the year is the iNaturalist Scavenger Hunt, which you can participate in by joining the project at the link below. All participants who complete the scavenger hunt will win a Fire in the Pines Sticker, and additional prizes are available for ranking high in other categories or earning an entry in the Wildcard raffle!

See new videos daily on the Fire in the Pines Festival website and Facebook page spotlighting the amazing plants and wildlife that call longleaf pine forests their home and learn about the importance of prescribed burning to keep these forests healthy.

As we prepare to move into a new season, Halyburton Park is offering virtual and in-person nature programs for all ages! Programs for September through December include kayak trips to Shark's Tooth Island and the Black Swamp, virtual birding chats (registration yet to be released), professional development workshops for environmental educators (registration yet to be released), outdoor preschool programs, and the virtual Autumn Evening Series.

Join us at Halyburton Park on Saturday, October 12th for our annual Fire in the Pines Festival!

Come out for a fun, free day to check out live raptors and other animals, hayrides, face painting and crafts, Smokey Bear, fire trucks, bull dozers, and over 40 interactive environmental booths. We will even have the NC Forest Service's Helicopter on deck this year! Learn why our "fire forests" thrive when we add fire back, helping plants and animals such as Venus flytraps and black bears thrive. Eat at one of the many delicious food trucks. At the end of the day you can see a controlled burn in the pine forest.
