Thank you for providing bat habitat! / Merci d’offrir un habitat pour les chauves-souris !

Thank you to everyone for being part of the Help the Bats initiative and for taking the time to upload your bat boxes as part of our 2020 survey!

Around this time of year, bats are leaving their summer roosts to find mates and look for hibernation sites or begin their migration. This can continue until the early autumn. You may see bats showing up at your boxes or, if you already have bats, they might begin to leave their roosts for the winter.

Did you know there are 19 species of bats in Canada? Three of these species are listed as Endangered, including the Little Brown Bat (Myotis lucifugus), Tri-coloured Bat (Perimyotis subflavus) and Northern Long-eared Bat (Myotis septentrionalis). You can help bats by having a pesticide-free garden, reporting bat sightings on iNaturalist and putting up bat boxes.

Visit to learn more. Thank you again for being a part of our ‘Help the Bats’ project!
