First Discoveries

I have kicked off this project by contributing some of its first discoveries. I visited Jenkins Creek Park, which includes portions of the historic Meridian prairie, part of a unique type of habitat in western Washington that is especially rare in King county. I didn’t observe any prairie species, but I did find signs of past anthropogenic fire from a big leaf maple observation with a scorched bole. The list of newly ‘discovered’ species are:

Acer macrophyllum
Berberis aquifolium
Carex obnupta
Lamium purpureum
Oemleria cerasiformis
Piceae sitchensis
Polypodium glycyrrhiza
Polystichum munitum
Pseudotsuga menziesii
Stellaria media
Tsuga heterophylla

There are many more species to be discovered, this area is largely undocumented in the iNaturalist database, so let’s see how many more we can find!
