The Mississippi Coast Audubon Society is a chapter of the National Audubon Society. The chapter was chartered in 1976 and has been involved education, conservation, and protection of natural resources ever since. The MCAS Fall Banding Station was implemented in 2020, with a single operating banding station housed on restricted access property on the coast of Pascagoula, Mississippi. The station runs from approximately September through October each year, with events occurring each Saturday. For more information about MCAS and its field trips, as well as how to register to join a banding event, see: https://mscoastaudubon.org/about-mcas/. Inspiration for this project housing comes from the Louisiana Bird Observatory: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/louisiana-bird-observatory
Our banders operate with the necessary state and federal permits to work with birds protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
