Taxonomic notes: Lanza (1990) opines that the then-recognized subspecies Aparallactus jacksonii oweni "very probably" warrants recognition as a full species. No subsequent work appears to have investigated this issue, and although Wallach et al. (2014) report Lanza's suggestion these authors do not comment on it. A. j. oweni is presently considered a junior synonym of A. j. jacksonii (Wallach et al. 2014).
