This species is known only from the type locality "Addur" (identified as Oddur), in the Bakool (Middle Juba) region of southern Somalia (Wallach et al. 2000). This locality lies at an elevation of 500 m asl. (Wallach et al. 2010).
Ask Wallach whether the locality data is certain, as Steve suggests it may not be certain that this is Somali.
This species is known only from the holotype, a museum specimen collected in 1922-1923 (Wallach et al. 2010).
This species was described based on a museum specimen, and there is no data on its ecology. The type locality is characterized by semiarid scrub and broken xerophytic woodland (Wallach et al. 2010). Annual precipitation in this area is around 100-600 mm, and average temperatures are 15-30º C. The holotype contained 35 eggs in various stages of development, indicating that reproduction is oviparous and clutch size is large (Wallach et al. 2010).
