Dwarf Birch (Betula nana) is a rare dwarf free species native to the Scottish Highlands.
Scientists at Queen Mary University of London, in collaboration with the conservation charity Trees for Life, are working to study and conserve this species which forms a key part of a montane scrub habitat existing above the tree line in Scotland.
A key challenge of the project, is finding the small surviving remnant populations of this tree out in the hills. To date, we only know of a handful, but there are certainly more out there. Please submit your sightings to help save this species.
