New Project: Plymouth's Coastal Plain Ponds

We're in the midst of establishing baseline data for water quality and biodiversity at and around the three dozen coastal plain ponds in Plymouth, Massachusetts. We will create iNaturalist 'places' for each of those ponds so that, whenever anyone uses iNaturalist to identify a species on those ponds, it will automatically be added to our list.

So, please - whether you are a SEMPBA member, understand how unique coastal plain ponds are, or just happen to be hiking along the shores of these ponds, use iNaturalst to record the birds, animals, plants and flowers you see. You'll educate yourself, and add to our research.

For more info, call or visit SEMPBA's headquarters: 774-773-9982, 158 Center Hill Road, Plymouth, Massachusetts.

I just added three "places" to the Coastal Plain Pond Project - which is the limit per day. I created Google Map polygons for Bartlett, Cooks and Three Cornered Ponds. Any observations made on those pods (or along its shore) will appear in the project's lists. Next time we're both at Center Hill, remind me to show you how to add new places: its not difficult.

I have previously submitted observations for Bartlett pond. Will they automatically be included or will only observations going forward be included?

Doughdee, I wasn't sure how it would work when we first set up the first 'places' for our latest project... but now I see yours and other observations that preceded the project, are included. It's exciting that we can just sit back and watch the observations accumulate. Of course we won't just sit back: we'll promote, bioblitz, and do everything we can to highlight the remarkable qualities of coastal plain ponds - all in the hope that they can be protected and preserved.
