Want to participate in an iNaturalist MISSION IMPOSSIBLE?

Mission Impossible - Identifying unidentified Plants in Africa!
A challenge for August 2023!

Mission impossible for August is to try and get as many observations to Research Grade as possible. So why dont we take up the challenge for the trees? How many trees can we identify in August?
Please participate, and why not get your friendly tree enthusiasts to participate too.

Deadline is 31 August!

At present in southern Africa we have 7,700 observations of Trees that have not been identified, or that have been identified, but require agreement to attain Research Grade.

Interested in helping in your own neighbourhood? You can help in two ways.

.1
Identify the trees in the queue:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/identify?verifiable=any&project_id=28880
and add your own neighbourhood (reserve, town, district or province) to narrow down the trees to your local hood.

.2
You can also help by adding the tree project to unknown tree observations
Everyone recognizes a tree right? So anyone can help with this.
Add the tree project to any trees of plants languishing as unidentified, to get it to our local specialists.

Step 1: Join this project (you only need do this once)
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/trees-of-southern-africa-id

Step 2: Search here: and add the tree project to any trees (of course - if you can ID them, then please do so! - but you dont need to do more than be able to say: "that is a tree" to help here!)
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?iconic_taxa=Plantae&lrank=epifamily&place_id=113055&verifiable=any&&without_taxon_id=311249,121943,47163,64615&not_in_project=trees-of-southern-africa-id
and add your own neighbourhood (reserve, town, district or province) to narrow down the observations to your local hood.

Note that some observations may just need a nudge. They have already been identified, but there is a disagreement. If you can help resolve the impasse, that would help a lot ..
