When I first spotted this beetle, it wasn't posed very well for a photograph, so I tried manipulating it with my fingertip. At this point, the parasitoid was still hidden beneath its former host. After taking a few photos, I noticed movement under the beetle and went around to the other side to investigate. My finger had moved the beetle to the point where it was almost falling off the blade of grass and the exposed wasp larva was industriously attempting to spin its cocoon. With the disruption, it may not have succeeded - when I returned to the site a month later, I could find no evidence that either insect had ever existed.
