Description
Some kind of mold growing atop a pile of bark mulch. The scale can be estimated by the Live Oak leaves laying on the pile, but the cinnamon-colored one was just over a foot in diameter, and appears to be F. septica. The mostly white one appears to be M. crustacea.
I think this organism looks like the "Horta" creature in one of the original Star Trek episodes (The Devil in the Dark) that was made of silicon and dissolved tunnels in a hard rock mine with its acid saliva; McCoy cured its phaser wounds with silicon-based cement, and they lived happily ever after! They have now come to Earth! Just teasing! Either that or it is cinnamon monkey-bread someone threw on the pile.
