Found under rock within grassland on river flat.
One of numerous moths flying about in long grass.
Emerging from nymphal stage, early evening, a few centimetres above ground on wall of house.

Definitely either Porrhothele or Hexathele, I’ve looked around iNaturalist and Forster’s books and can’t decide based on the picture.
I collected four adult males and two adult females in less than half hour. I could have easily collected three times as many.
No trouble locating them by sound!
possible eggs hatched from this cicada.
Any Cicada experts, if your interested.
I tried to pick up one of these little beasties a couple of years ago when it was singing in my outside covered porch area and I got a blood letting bite for my troubles. I vaguely recall some discussion on this site a while back about this being an Australian species.
Brown South African preying mantis. No blue spot on inside of front leg
Found under a cabbage tree leaf.
Paua slug (Schizoglossa sp.) photographed at Dansey Reserve. There were about 8 of them on the side of a damp gully. Majority seemed to be sitting on mahoe logs.
I saw 7 of these during one short walk.
I do not know if my image and sound go together. I want to know what is making the high pitched sound in the foreground? There are regular crickets calling in the background.
This cricket looked a bit different to the usual black field cricket (smaller and lighter in colour with red knees) maybe it was making the sound?
Large spider found in silk tunnel under fallen branch in small patch of rimu-kauri forest. Looks a bit like Porrhothele antipodiana, but the carapace is darker than other photos I've seen of it.
A large butterfly seen resting on the underside of a leaf, late afternoon, in a suburban yard.
