Description
So as I got back from church I saw some sort of bird strike down a MODO, I went over to investigate but the killer was gone and the dove was dead. After looking around I went inside and about 2-3 minutes later the unknown raptor came to claim it's prize, Now I believe that it is a merlin but not confident. So I went outside to try to get some better photos, I snuck up from behind a tree and then slowly crawled forward. In the end I took about 40 pictures and got almost 5 feet away from the bird before it flew off. If it is a merlin it will be a lifer!

One hell of a bird for northern IL, 4 birds in total. Luckily I was one of the first people there after the alert went out so I was able to get some nice sunshine before the storm moved in. Lifer and year bird 240!

Description
This lovely is a year old. She was a fledge last spring. At that time there was a regular male and female -- both of whom left last fall. She remained fairly present on the alley and in and out of my yard most the winter except these last two months. She's now back, and, one day (as far as I know) there has been a male visitor, too. She's eating my own recipe of suet. I must say I feel flattered. The other side of the feeder is store-bought (though excellent quality) suet with some bugs in it. She never goes for it. She spent may minutes eating and in fact pulls out a good sized nugget -- most likely a pecan. Later she lets it go as presumably too big. Numbers 6 and 9 show her tongue out and there are a couple shots of her third eyelid. The last two images are prepping to and taking off with a nice 'red belly'.
