This might be my new favorite sedge! Very cool, it's got a lot going on. Long, triangular and winged stem. Large flat leaves at the base. Stacked and protected flower/fruit structures.

Screenshots from Kaleidoscope Viewer.
The low, flat calls with frequencies in the teens should be enough to be diagnostic for hoary bat.

I am confident this recording is not of Oden the captive owl for a few reasons.
-
This recording was taken on the Audubon loop trail, near the bottom of the steep hill that leads to Egypt rd. Too far from the captive birds area.
-
I heard at least 2 owls calling, from up in the trees relative to where I was standing.
One of the owls was making a neat squawk sound I've never heard before.

This deer has been around the area for quite a while (the community has probably got a name for him by now!). This is my first time I was lucky enough to see him, I've only seen other folks' pictures before. Thankfully he was fairly cooperative for photos, at one point ran past the trail and got a shriek out of a surprised jogger.

Accidentally discovered and disturbed while I was opening up an old birdhouse that had been sitting on the ground for a while next to the ranger station (I intended to clean it out and put it up somewhere else.) Closed the box back up and set it out in the woods for continued mousy usage.
