3 kits lounging near abandoned shack next to the trail, attracting lots of attention from passers-by

Or could it be european mantis? What are the field marks I should be looking for?

Bold rufous patterns on face, central dark spot on a light breast. Spotted in the brush directly next to the "turf bridge" in between the driving range and the woods that border the train tracks.

This individual had something strange going on with its beak, either some part of it is bent or coming off, or the top and bottom are overlapping/crossing with each other.

Fisherman saw snake eating fish in the creek, brought it up onto the trail with a stick

Swimming against the current of the canal outflow, with steep walls on either side there's nowhere for it to climb out onto a shore, periodically clings to the wall for a rest

I moved him into the grass on the other side of the trail, to avoid bike squishing
