For the blackening Russula
@chipmonk87 I can tell you exactly where I found it if you'd like to check it out. Not too far from the capital city- on sunrise carriage trail, if you get on the trail, walk straight until you see the first curve right. Instead of taking the curve, keep walking straight, into the woods... you will find a ravine of sorts with water running down it. Follow that up 150ft. It was a little up the hill from that.
It was growing nearby umbrella magnolia, yellow buckeye, tulip tree, etc. I was vacationing there so I don't remember the details nor am I very familiar with the local flora. It wasn't after a rain or anything. Didn't look like a saprotroph as it wasn't growing on anything dead in particular. I was assuming mycorrhizal. (I don't know much about mycology)
