Thyene male and female togehter
Found this beautiful individual among mid elevation shola forests of southern Western Ghats. The lack of tympanum and the vocal sacs makes their breeding behaviour a mystery.
Female killed a dragon fly. The spider was about 10 cm up, it descended slowly using web to a nearby perch and then pounced on the dragon fly, I ran in and got my phone for a few pics, by which time the dragon fly became immobile. Hyllus I've seen take big prey at my garden.
Bringing male and female together took nearly an hour..... They first sat facing each other male didint hold its feeling ran towords female, female changed its position instead, like other males this smodicinus male makes dancing moves to attract female, size of male is smaller than female

I was surprised to see Brown widow spiders occupying every nook and corner of the house in Gajendragada. I could find at least 1 female and a few males under every plastic chair that was kept out in the veranda.
Here is a male Brown widow spider trying very hard to kill the beetle caught in its web. The Beetle was powerful and well armored, making it almost impossible for the spider to deliver the fatal bite. Whenever the Beetle stopped struggling the spider would explore a new spot to deliver the fatal bite. After a few unsuccessful attempts it found just the right spot - the extremeties!
One bite to the limb and the prey stopped struggling within minutes.
Phoreticc mites on a small Cranefly. Photographed on light trap.
