This is a recent split from Peridea ferruginea (Chocolate Prominent, Hodges number 7921). It is more southern in distribution and the host plant is river birch, Betula nigra. This moth was found very close to some landscape trees of that species, which is also common in natural areas in the Durham NC region.
The species was named for Texas-based lepidopterist Charles William Bordelon Jr. (1958-2016). I met Charles on a trip to Texas in 2006 and did not learn of his passing until researching the species.
