Description
I found this weirdly shaped Sycamore with a very complex structure on a drive along Castleman Run, south of the beautiful college town of Bethany, West Virginia. I actually can't make much sense of the shape of the original trunk, or trunks, as they emerge from the ground. Being on the bank of the stream, it may have been distorted by flood damage in its youth. In this view, the stream flows behind the tree from left to right. The confusing hump of the main trunk seems to form an arch that re-enters the ground, and then breaks off to the right, and there is a small space or gap under the arch that one can see through, even reach a hand through.
Now that I have photographed and located this tree on the map, I can return to it any time, and keep an eye on its strange contortions over time.

This vine is not Japanese Honeysuckle. It's perennial and an aggressive grower. Thrives in sun and part shade.

Around 12 individuals were seen foraging in the trees in Red Rock Park, Burlington Vermont. The individuals were moving too fast for a photo, but a song was recorded. In addition, multiple others were heard. The recording contains a faint song. This viewing took place at around noon.

This one is sooo cute...She comes over calling in a soft little voice "feed dee feed dee" fluttering her little wings as she lands on my hand & carefully takes a peanut! Maybe she lost her mate, I don't know but she is always fluttering her wings & using the soft little voice. She comes to my hand with no hesitation,so has to be a regular. She chose a peanut over the moth
