Observation for bee at bottom: An Agapostemon texanus female faces off with a Nomada bee who wants to enter her nest. The sweat bee finally leaves, the Nomad bee approaches the hole, then backs off when the host bee returns sooner than expected.

This spot by the water is rife with bird poop, making it a popular spot with flies. That's what I expected to find when I spotted a cluster of insects on the ground. To my surprise and confusion, the aggregation was of bees! I crouched down for a closer look. What were they eating? It was cormorant poop!
Some of the bees were really focused on feeding. Even when I almost stepped on them, one or two bees would always remain put.
